Tourism is the largest industry in Tennessee, bringing $11.5 billion dollars into the state's economy, $2.4 billion into East Tennessee alone.
The Middle East Tennessee Council (METTC), chartered in 1982, is a nonprofit group that works to enhance community growth through the promotion of tourism. METTC is a promotion and development agency that serves and supports Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott and Union Counties, as well as the cities of Dandridge, Gatlinburg, Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville. METTC also serves as one of eight statewide regional tourism organizations recognized by the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development.
